If you thought you knew Bad Pony, their new EP Deficiency is going to shake things up. It was premiered through Music Feeds yesterday, read it here.
The Sydney group throws down the gauntlet with their sophomore EP release, demonstrating a strong grip on indie rock music delivered with snarl. Over the years, Bad Pony have continued to generate momentum around their electrifying live show at at this point in 2018, the hype is at a particular high. Their time spent at SXSW saw the acclaim roll in, playing alongside national idols such as Gang of Youths, Bad Pony’s explosive performance at the Aussie BBQ saw them walk away with the award of Best Australian Group, as voted by The AU Review.
“The crowd loved it: I loved it; they were clearly loving it, smashing percussion like there was no tomorrow with powerful howls of passion that really rendered their lyrics with palpable emotion and adrenaline.” – The AU Review
This has been at the core of Bad Pony’s music since day dot – a driving passion for intense music that highlights powerfully earnest songwriting. With the release of their killer single ‘Knife’ earlier in the year, Bad Pony showed off a strong deck of songs to the public and their audiences have responded in kind.
Deficiency is a continued exploration of the harder edge Bad Pony have been showing fans over the last year. Lead single ‘My Heart’ is a stunning record opener; frenetic guitars and tight percussion come together effortlessly, while Jarred Young’s vocals here and throughout the EP have only gotten richer in range and depth.
‘Deficiency’ is out now, listen here:
“I think this EP is a bit of a snapshot in time for us as a band and also myself personally. Lyrically it deals with a pretty dismal period of my life which I think also came out musically as it gives it a heaviness & darkness. It’s a good portrayal of where our collective songwriting has been over the last couple of years whilst the latest singles hint at a sonic realm we’re gravitating towards.” – Bad Pony, Jarred Young
A record to draw new ears in as well as satiate the appetites of their long time fans, Bad Pony’s Deficiency is anything but what the title suggests.
Praise for Bad Pony:
“Possessing a virulent, honest-to-god rock sound and unashamedly wearing it’s grunge influences on its sleeve, it will be an absolute treat for those attending SXSW.”
– Music Insight
“Adrenaline-fuelled, raucous and executed with controlled power, Bad Pony’s live set is as indelible as their songs: infectious and satisfyingly polished.”
– The Industry Observer
The country has produced many impressive electronic pop acts in recent years, and Sydney’s Bad Pony look like they may be next in line to break out”.
“The band’s music is resonating with an international audience now, with their previous releases attracting hundreds of thousands of plays on music streaming app Spotify since the start of the year.”
– The Daily Telegraph
