About The Belligerents

Artist Enquiry

It’s been a whirlwind of a year for Brisbane indie-psychedelic supergroup The Belligerents, most recently coming to the attention of the nation with a jaw dropping rendition of Fat Boy Slims “Praise You” for Triple J’s Like a Version. The re-imagination even got Fat Boy Slim him self talking, retweeting the video with a “LOVE THIS COVER!” and “GREAT WORK!”.

"It’s no small feat to execute a quality cover of this timeless tune with live instruments. Everything from that unforgettable piano hook to those droning breakdowns has been taken care of. Well done, boys." - Tone Deaf

With the success of their last two singles “In My Way” and “Voices” receiving high rotation on Triple J and community radio across the country, there is no holding back The Belligerents, announcing the release of their heavily anticipated follow up single “Looking At You” premiered on Pilerats from their forthcoming EP due out this October. Adding to this announcement, The Belligerents announce their national EP tour presented by Music Feeds, join festival bills Panacea Festival (Formerly Between The Hills), Jungle Love & Festival Of The Sun and were also named to showcase at the 2015 BIGSOUND conference alongside artists like Stonefield, Muscles, Gang of Youths, Holy Holy, Cosmic Psychos, The John Steel Singers, Slum Sociable, The Snowdroppers and High Tension.

“Looking At You” see’s the Brisbane 5 piece truly come into their own, developing sonically from their early indie dance sound, now riding a wave of psychedelic explosions reminiscent of King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard, Tame Impala and Pond, yet remaining distinctive with their raw and experimental sound.

Self produced by the band and engineered by bass player Konstantin Kersting at Airlock Studios, the forthcoming EP will mark The Belligerents EP since their debut Less Arty More Party in 2011 and She Calls The Shots in 2012.

"We've continually been trying to expand sonically as a band and I hope that shows on this new single. When we were in the studio this time round we had a lot of time to actually 'think' about the sounds, rather than just sticking to the stuff we've been doing all along. We experimented with lots of different keyboards, amps and pedals and tried to make it as aurally appealing to the listener as possible." - Konstantin Kersting

Set to be their best work yet, the forthcoming EP will be a defining release for the Brisbane super group, responsible for spawning some of the most talked about local indie bands, sharing members with; Orphans Orphans, Moses Gunn Collective, The Furrs, Morning Harvey, Family Jordan and The Jungle Giants. The latest single and upcoming EP makes a statement The Belligerents are here to stay.
