In an age where hip-hop from Australia is on the brink of international stardom, Midas.Gold stands out as a premiere name at the very top of the new wave. Since breaking out in late 2015 with single “000000” the U.S born now Brisbane-based emcee has gone on to accrue over a million online streams and video views, national radio play, global blog attention and supports for household hip-hop names including Danny Brown and The Underachievers.
The “baddest man in the game” according to Triple J Unearthed Music Director Dave Ruby-Howe, Gold took absolute command of the emerging hip-hop culture in Australia in 2016 via the release of his debut EP “For What Its’s Worth.” The bold, in-your-face project received acclaim across the industry including spins and reviews from Triple J, official global playlisting from Spotify and video additions from both MTV and Rage, the latter naming “Casket Pt. 2” as its clip of the week upon release.
Four national tours in the space of 12 months, 2 headliners as well as supports for Tkay Maidza and Ivan Ooze, confirmed that the energy found in Midas.Gold records is replicated on-stage – evident in his addition to the Listen Out Festival Line-up. The accolades have quickly piled up for the 22 year old who ended the year a Triple J/NIDA Award Winner, Triple J Unearthed Feature Artist and as one of the Top 50 Most Played Unearthed Artists.
Following a brief hiatus, Midas.Gold has returned stronger than ever in the second half of 2017 with spots on the official BIGSOUND festival line-up and Red Bull Music Academy in Brisbane indicating that with the world at his feet, Midas is set to build on his incredible foundation and transition from national prodigy to global talent.
