After selling out venues as part of their mammoth tour of Australia, the US and Canada, Melbourne five-piece Jakubi are already looking forward to an exciting 2015. Releasing their first single, Can’t Afford It All, midway through 2013 the band have grown from strength to strength and they show no signs of slowing down. Adding to what has been an incredible 18 months for the band comes the announcement of a co-management deal with major US player 7s Management (The Dandy Warhols, Dinosaur Jr) as well as securing a spot on the artist roster with UK’s renowned Coda Agency for all European bookings. To celebrate, and to see the year out, the boys have one more Australian tour up their sleeves; an 11 date summer run through some of Australia’s most picturesque coastal towns that has been cleverly named ‘Life’s A Beach.’
The overwhelming response to their latest single ‘Couch Potato’ has swept across the globe. After recently topping over half a million Soundcloud streams and over a million more on YouTube, the group have gained the praise of heavyweights Okayplayer, HillyDilly and the king of pop culture commentary himself, Perez Hilton, who said, “It’s so dope! They’ve got a real laid-back, positive vibe that’s infectious”.
The clip for ‘Couch Potato’ follows a girl (Couch Potato) who’s relaxed view on life gains her father’s disapproval. The playful video is brought to life by the band’s irresistible blend of fresh vocals, jangle guitars and sailing hip hop beats, and was recently screened across national TV – adding a comical shade to an airing of Channel 7’s Highway Patrol.
As well as the upcoming ‘Life’s A Beach’ Australian tour, Jakubi will soon be releasing their debut EP and announcing a follow-up tour of the US for 2015.
