Columbus is a 3-piece punk band from the south -western suburbs of Brisbane, Australia. After meeting bass player Ben Paynter in High-school Jazz band, childhood friends Alex Moses and Daniel Seymour formed Columbus in early 2012. The band promptly started playing shows and developing their punk sound with influences from other bands such as Title Fight, Luca Brasi, Brand New and childhood favourites Blink 182.
After the release of their debut EP ‘Sad Songs and Sing-alongs’ in October of 2013, Columbus became a prominent name in Brisbane’s local punk and alternative scene. 2014 saw the band support a flurry of international names such as; The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Neck Deep, Basement, and Worthwhile, as the band rode on the success of their split 7″ EP with Perth friends ‘Alex the Kid’.
Columbus released highly acclaimed single ‘Downsides of Being Honest’ in November of 2014 which received large amounts of internet and radio play and soon after saw themselves on a national Australian tour supporting bands’ Endless Heights and Trophy Eyes.
“You need to keep an eye on Columbus in 2015. If they keep writing tracks this good, it’ll be a big year for them” – Stu Harvey
“Oh man. Shades of everything good about Australian punk from past up to now, right down to the half-time bridge. Ones to watch.” – Max Quinn
